Cork City FC return to action against Derry City in the Airtricity League Premier Division at Turner’s Cross this evening (Friday), reeling from deducted points and goal advantages arising from this week’s withdrawal from the league of Monaghan United.
The Ulster side, managed by Roddy Collins, cited financial reasons as the main factor in their decision to pull out of the league.
Cork memorably defeated Monaghan Utd at Turner’s Cross on a 6-0 scoreline at Turner’s Corss back in April.
Preparing for Derry City’s visit, Cork City manager Tommy Dunne said he was “disappointed” that the remaining clubs’ points would be negatively adjusted, meaning that City has had three points and six goals deducted from its Premier Division campaign.
