According to a new survey by local Volkswagen dealer Blackwater Motors, driving in rush-hour traffic is the most stressful activity for 76% of Cork motorists.
Marking the launch of the new VW Beetle at Blackwater Motors in Turner’s Cross, Fermoy and Skibbereen, the Volkswagen Ireland survey also identifies parallel parking, overtaking, negotiating roundabouts and reversing as other sources of stress for Cork motorists.
The survey also highlights interesting local motoring quirks, with 6% of respondents admitting to having changed their clothes while driving, and 85% of motorists owning up to the consumption of food or drink while behind the wheel.
Sixty nine per cent of respondents said they have talked on the phone, and almost half (46%) have sent a text message while driving.
The survey also looked at the practical aspects car ownership, with 69% saying a car should be serviced every 10,000km, and more than half (53%) opting to go to their original dealers. However, eight in 10 of the respondents believed that servicing at dealers was more expensive.
In light of this, Peter Reeve, sales manager at Blackwater Motors, said it was “always advisable” to return Volkswagens to original dealers for servicing, due to the certainty that only genuine VW parts and tools would be used, as well as the highest standards ensured through the service centres’ stringent quality checks.
Blackwater Motors are running servicing offers, including a €199 package that includes a change of oil, new air and oil filters, as well as changes of pollen filters, spark plugs (petrol), fuel filters (diesel), and a full health and safety check.
