Pre-teen Cork ski sensation, Isabel O’Leary, has returned from her first stint representing Ireland at the Borrufa Cup international children’s competition in Andorra, having placed herself among the elite of the world’s future stars of the sport.
And now, with big ambitions for the future, young Isabel (12) has her eyes firmly on competing in the Junior Winter Olympics in 2018.
Isabel was among 200 children from 30 countries contesting the races, and in her four categories—the slalom, giant slalom, Super G and combi—finished in the top 20 (the first 15 in the giant slalom).
Her mother Christine was delighted with the significance of Isabel’s outing in Andorra, for a child from a non-snow country, competing against the best from the world’s top skiing nations.
Isabel has had huge support from her friends, teachers and parent’s council at St Angela’s on St Patrick’s Hill, who have assisted the O’Leary family with back-packing, bake sales and other fundraising activities aimed at sustaining the young ski star’s participation in the sport.
Her website olearyskiracing.org is being updated at the moment and videos of Isabel competing in her races courtesy of Andorra TV will be available for viewing shortly.
