Irish mums choose homemade baby food

Irish mums prefer to cook their baby's food from scratch. That's according to a new survey conducted by SuperValu, which revealed that 86% prepare homemade meals for their little ones.

The store has now teamed up with Consultant Dietician Sarah Keogh and celebrity chef Kevin Dundon to provide nutrition conscious mums with some baby meal inspiration. Commenting on the recipes, Sarah Keogh said,”Start by cooking a large batch of something like Kevin’s Spinach & Potato Puree and freeze the extra portions. Silicone muffin tins make the perfect portion size and will keep for up to three months. Then you can alternate jars with your homemade food, to fit in with a busy lifestyle. Try one new recipe a month, and make double quantities to save yourself time.”

Other interesting findings from the research included:

  • 72% of mums who prepare homemade baby meals have two or more children, debunking the myth that the majority of mums only cook from scratch for the first child
  • 64% of mums surveyed admit that they are under pressure time wise and find it a challenge to prepare meals from scratch everyday
  • However, 70% of those surveyed have found that preparing a large batch and freezing it is the most time effective method
  • 38% of mums also admit to struggling to find new recipes, with 45% turning to the internet for inspiration
