Lanzarote is a great family friendly destination and one that is popular all year around. Situated just 79 miles from the coast of Africa, Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. Being of volcanic origins, the island boasts dramatic volcanic features as a result of 18th and 19th century eruptions, setting it apart from its neighbouring islands. Exploring the island on a bike is an absolute pleasure thanks to the planned cycle routes, which allow tourists to see the best of what the island has to offer. Bike rental shops are widely available throughout the larger resort towns of Arrecife and Costa Teguise and here you can receive information on the best routes to travel. Walking and hiking enthusiasts can explore the beauty of Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape on specially-created senderos, or trails. The most popular resort on the island is the bustling town of Puerto del Carmen, which offers a wide variety of family-friendly attractions, restaurants and hotels. It's the ultimate recreation destination, with something for all the family. The town is in close proximity to Lanzarote’s only theme park, Rancho Texas – an animal park featuring many rare animals, such as the White Tiger and the Puma. Visitors can also enjoy three live animal shows, featuring sea lions, parrots and various birds of prey. You can try your hand at gold mining, or give canoeing a go. If none of these activities are up your street, you can paddle in the newly-opened pool zone, where plenty of fun and games awaits.
