Footballers all set for quarter-final

With the line-up of the Cork football team that will face Kildare in Sunday’s All Ireland quarter-final still be announced at press time, a closely fought battle against tough opposition is expected.

Manager Conor Counihan was philosophical this week, telling a press conference in Rochestown that an easy game could not be expected at this stage of the championship, and that Cork was “where we wanted to be at this time of year”.

Although Kildare have failed to emphatically establish their invincibility this year, and Cork is tipped to shade the encounter, Counihan’s camp is leaving nothing to chance, forensically focusing on Kildare during intense training sessions over the past week.

The quarter final begins at Croke Park this Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are currently available on-line at gaa.ie and selected Centra/SuperValu stores, costing €30 (stand), €20 (Hill 16), with u-16s admitted for €5 (except Hogan Stand).
