A weeklong celebration of Cork cuisine and culture kicks off today, Friday, as part of the first ever Cork Food Week, which will see over a dozen of the area’s best dining establishments putting their best foot forward.

Organised by the Cork Restaurants marketing group following the success of last August’s Cork Gourmet Pirate Trail, the event, which runs until August 4th, gets underway with the Titanic Ball, a collaboration with the Titanic 100 Festival in Cobh at Cork City Hall tonight at 7.30pm.

Among the many highlights of this fun-filled festival of cuisine and culture will be the ‘Food and Kids’ event on Tuesday July 31st, with Cork Restaurants, Cork Opera House and Trendmicro organising a special family day in the city centre, with a ‘bring your own’ picnic from noon, complete with teddy bears clinics, storytelling, and a special appearance from the Von Trapp family in the Cork Opera House production of The Sound of Music. At 3.15, Trendmicro will host a seminar on internet safety for children, suitable for children and children alike, which is free of charge.
