Cork gears up for National Sailing Weekend

More than sixty sailing clubs and training centres nationwide will open their doors to take part in Sail Spree this weekend. The initiative, developed by the Irish Sailing Association (ISA) to encourage people of all ages out on to the water to experience the thrill of water based activities, will offer taster sessions in sailing, powerboating, windsurfing and jet skiing. Many clubs will also provide on shore activities including entertainment, food, drink and music guaranteeing a great day out for all the family.

East Cork

East Cork will have Youghal Bay Boat Club and Aquatrek Sea Skills flying the Sail Spree flag on Saturday, June 24th. AquaTrek will be providing ‘On the Water’ taster sessions in both sailing and power boating.

Cork Harbour

Cork Harbour will be busy over the Sail Spree weekend with Monkstown Bay Sailing Club giving visitors a chance to take part in the Sea Hennessy Trophy Race on Saturday, June 23rd. On the same day Royal Cork Yacht Club will be taking out guests in a variety of yachts belonging to their members.

Cobh

SailCork, based in Cobh, are providing an action packed day with ‘On the Water’ taster sessions on both Saturday and Sunday of the Sail Spree weekend. They will have sailing, power boating and kayaking on offer with a choice of dinghies or yachts, all equipment provided, special deals for families, on shore activities, entertainment, food and drink.

South Cork

The Oysterhaven Centre will be providing a fun filled weekend for all the family while Courtmacsherry Watersports Centre will provide taster sessions in sailing and power boating for older kids and adults. Meanwhile Kinsale will come alive with sailing excitement over the weekend with Kinsale Yacht Club and Kinsale Outdoor Education Centre will offer taster sessions in power boating on June 23rd.

West Cork

On the west coast Glandore Harbour Yacht Club, Baltimore Sailing Club, and Bantry Bay Sailing Club will run ‘On the Water’ sailing taster sessions on Saturday 23rd June as part of the Sail Spree celebration. Glandore will provide a variety of keelboats and dinghies to give guests a true sailing experience around Glandore Harbour, followed by refreshments and an informal chat about the sport in the Glandore Inn, their unofficial clubhouse!
