Cork darts players aim to keep the men’s national championship title on Leeside this weekend, when they step up to the oche for the finals of the 2012 Ireland Darts Players’ Championships, being held in Cork for the first time this Sunday, July 1st, at the Silver Springs Moran Hotel, from noon.
Cork has a strong representation among the top 32 Irish players doing battle for the title, with reigning champion Damien O’Driscoll, as well as Peter Quinn and Kevin McDonnell aiming for the prize.
O’Driscoll followed in the footsteps of John O’Shea to win the 2011 event, while Quinn was unlucky to lose out in 2009, and McDonnell has had a great season, finishing at number three in the rankings.
Kay O’Carroll and Sharon Buckley are the Cork representatives doing battle for the ladies’ championship, and either has a solid chance of bringing the ladies title to the Rebel County for the first time.
Under-18 Youths will also be in action, with Darren Savage and Jack O’Hea representing Cork.
