CIT Powerlifting Club coach Tomas Cuddihy fought hard through the three days of a World Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation (WDFPF) event in Autun, France, recently to become world champion in a number of categories.
Tomas, along with Barry Pigott and Dan Fleury, were in France for the CIT club’s biggest competition to date, the World Single Lift Championships, facing the cream of powerlifting talent from countries such as Austria, the US and Russia.
Competing in the under-125kg Masters 1 division, Tomas won the equipped bench press title and both the raw and equipped deadlift categories, taking also second place finishes in the squat and third in the raw bench press.
In the under-82.5kg junior division, Barry Pigott narrowly missed out on first place in both the squat and the bench press, while Dan Fleury just missed out on the podium in the under-100kg senior bench press.
CIT Powerlifting Club now turns its attention back to the national stage with the IDFPA Three-Man Team Championships taking place on August 18th in County Louth. For more information on drug-free powerlifting in Ireland visit the IDFPA website at idfpa.plus.com.
