A series of creative classes for adults and children is underway in one of Cork's most picturesque locations. Art in the Park, supported by Cork City Council will see a range of workshops, clubs and once-off events take place in Fitzgeralds Park throughout the summer.
Life drawing for adults
Develop new skills in drawing by exploring the beautiful scenery in Fitzgerald's Park from the Lord Mayor's Pavilion. An inspiration for landscape and botanical studies, some classes may be possible outside, weather permitting! Suitable for adults of all ages and abilities, the classes take place from 11am -12.30pm every Tuesday until August 28th. €8 per session or €48 for an eight-week course. Places are limited so booking is recommended by emailing Gillian at gillted@eircom.net
Sunday drop-in art session
Artists in residence at The Lord Mayor's Pavilion, visual artist P Gurgel-Segrillo will host a Sunday drop-in Art Club with hour-long art sessions for children aged between six and 12 on the hour from 2pm until 5pm. The cost is €5 each child and all materials are included.
Summer Art Clubs for kids
Summer Art Clubs for children aged between six and 12 will involve fun, hands-on classes in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. With indoor and outdoor sessions in a beautiful park setting, the Art Clubs will introduce children to different materials and art forms: painting, drawing, construction and cartooning weekly from Monday to Friday, 2pm to 5pm until August 24th. The cost is €120 per week for each participant, all materials included. Booking is essential, email artinthepark@archanjo.org .
Illustration classes for adults and teens
Author and Art in the Park resident artist Alan Corbett will host a series of Picture Book classes on Saturdays from July 7th for 10 weeks. Adults classes run from 11am to 1pm at €200 with Teens from 2pm to 4pm, €150. All materials are included. Booking is essential, email artintheparkalan@live.com Alan will also lead a Cork History Walking Tour for adults every Friday at 2pm. The hour-long walk starts at Art in the Park and finishes in Saint Finn Barre's Cathedral. €5 per person.
