Young children who have the ability to persist with and finish a task are 50% more likely to complete college, according to a new study. Researchers at Oregon State University in the US tracked a group of 430 preschool-age children, asking parents to rate their children on statements such as "plays with a single toy for long periods of time" or "child gives up easily when difficulties are encountered."
Children who were rated higher by their parents on attention span and persistence at age four, regardless of achievement in reading or math, had nearly 50 percent greater odds of getting a degree by age 25.
