The distinctive design and panoramic windscreen of the Astra GTC compact coupé has earned the carmaker its latest prestigious red dot design award.
A 30-strong panel of judges hailed the car’s “sporty design” and said the windscreen ensured that “passengers benefit from maximum driving fun”.
The windscreen of the Astra GTC stretches all the way to the middle of the roof, without a transverse spar.
For the vice president of Opel/Vauxhall design, Mark Adams, the award proves the carmaker’s philosophy of “sculptural artistry meets German precision”.
At this year’s red dot awards, the Astra GTC bested a field of 4,515 products entered by 1,800 companies and designers from 58 nations.
Established in 1955, the red dot design awards are among the world’s most highly regarded design competitions.
And this is the latest in a succession of red dot awards for Opel-designed cars, which also include the Astra Sports Tourer, Flextreme GT/E Concept, Insignia and the GT.
