112: The number that could save your life

Less than thirty percent of Irish people know that 112 is the single emergency number they can call both in and outside of Ireland. Despite the fact that 57% of Irish people have travelled to another EU country in the past year, well above the EU average of 39%, and more than 30% have travelled on more than one occasion, just 26% were aware of the correct number for contacting emergency services.

The European emergency number 112 is reachable from fixed and mobile phones, free of charge, everywhere in the EU and links the caller to the relevant emergency service (local police, fire brigade or medical services) 24-hours a day.
